The National Executive Committee(NEC) and the rank and file of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), should allow President John Dramani Mahama contest the party’s flagbearer position unopposed, a Deputy Minister of the Ashanti Region has recommended.

Mr. Samuel Adusei pointed out that it is equally imperative for the NEC to devise an agenda that will ensure that Ghana’s Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur is maintained as  Mahama’s running mate for the 2016 general election.

Better Ghana agenda

Adusei believes that his recommendation will give Ghanaians a firm signal that the party has fulfilled its Better Ghana agenda.

According to the Daily Graphic, Mr Adusei said in view of the strong challenge the NPP  is likely to put up against the NDC in the 2016  general electionsit would be unhealthy for any member of the NDC to challenge the candidature of President Mahama as leader of the party.

President Mahama was the Vice President of Ghana from 2009 to 2012, and took office as President on July, 24, 2012 after the death of his predecessor, the late Professor John Atta Mills.

He was elected to serve his first term as President in December 2012 elections.

Mahama was a Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2009 and Minister of Communications from 1998 to 2001.
