MP to award Volta Region Journalists

The Member of Parliament for Ho West and the Chairman of the government Assurance Committee of Parliament, Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah has pledged to support journalists from the Volta region by institutionalising an annual award scheme.

The move he proposed would motivate hardworking journalist in region to practise professional journalism with intelligence, accuracy, and objectivity.

[contextly_sidebar id=”N4D21Kxbrm2KFrMjywCBqb7ckD890y7F”]Mr Emmanuel Bedzrah said journalism plays pivotal role in the development of any society thus the need to motivate practitioners.

He therefore encouraged journalist to focus more on development journalism rather than being agents of confusion and chaos.

The Member of Parliament said he will be organising a series of training activities for  journalists and media professionals in the Volta Region.

He made his pledge when hosted journalists in the region at a media soiree held in Ho.

The acting Volta GJA president Mr Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi decried the proliferation of unaccredited media training schools in region.

He also bemoaned the trend where media house owners prefer engaging the services of non-professionals to professionals.

“The engagement of non-professionals in the media landscape is becoming a headache. If you go to some radio stations now, JHS, SHS leavers are being engaged as presenters, program hosts and reporters ; it is not the best for us’’ he said. Adding that ‘’ many media owners are not prepared or willing to pay the few professionals they have well.’’

He said the association was working to close many of the schools in the area.

Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Volta Regional Minister Hon Francis Ganyaglo, the Member Of Parliament for Ho Central Hon Benjamin Kpodo and the Member Of Parliament for Adaklu Constituency Hon Kwame Agbodza.
