The Ministry of Local Government will hold a meeting with its stakeholders to assess the performance of the National Sanitation day exercise.

The exercise, which was instituted by the Ministry to ensure a clean environment across the country following a deadly outbreak of cholera across the country in 2014 witnessed very low public patronage last month.

[contextly_sidebar id=”GeXSgAzh6wtSVS8xHHuDCX3fjOLT7F1L”]Speaking to Citi News, a Deputy Minister of Local Government Nii Lantey Vanderpuye said the local government ministry  will  devise measures  to ensure that the plan succeeds.

“We cannot really take action, what  we will say that we will find out the report from the other regions …and we will have a chat with them and let them understand [the essence  of the exercise].”

He said the Ministry will also provide the necessary tools and equipment needed for the clean up exercise in various regions, adding that the Ministry will also educate residents in various areas on the importance of the exercise to forestall poor patronage in  subsequent exercises.

Meanwhile a senior law lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Poku Adusei has called for the enactment of a law to ensure that the National Sanitation day programme is enforced.

This according to him will compel  Ghanaians to actively participate in the monthly clean up exercise.
