About 220 successful applicants have gained admission to study various academic disciplines at the African University College of Communications (AUCC).
One hundred forty of them are to join the school of communication studies whiles the rest will join the business school.
Addressing the forth matriculation ceremony in Accra, Chief Executive Officer of life coaching and leadership development consultancy firm called Launch Pad, Richard Akita challenged the matriculates to take strive to become responsible citizens.
“The world and mother Ghana demands selflessness in the next generation of leaders, a generation that will think, strategize and take proactive action on the challenging issues, head on for the common good.”
He added, “As you step into this season of development where your thinking and paradigms will be challenged, questioned, critiqued, enhanced, but above all expose you to the Pursuit of Excellence, critical and independent thinking, creativity and innovation, respect for African cultural Values and service to the community.”
“Your response must be an insatiable desire to be the best at your chosen discipline and take full responsibility for your own personal development.”
Mr. Akita challenged the next generation of Ghanaian leaders to wean themselves from government’s payroll and exhibit their entrepreneurial skills to survive.
“Our beloved country is no longer patiently waiting, but demanding a generation that will arise and shine; AUCC will only be the platform where ideals are formed, refined and groomed, but the onus is on you to aim higher, demand higher standards, transform your areas of influence and never conform, your enthusiasm for service.”
He impressed upon the youth to be disciplined and take pragmatic steps to correct negative practices that are inhibiting socio-economic development in their communities.
“Part of the values which will be instilled whilst at AUCC is a desire for personal development, make it a priority from today, for once you step into the workforce what you do counts, either influencing your community from the spectrum of negativity or positivity.”
He emphasized, “A positive attitude leads to happiness and success and can change your whole life; if you cultivate the culture of personal development in life generally, you stand to benefit from achieving goals and attaining success by looking at the bright side of issues instead of groaning and nagging about negative things and being pessimistic.”
