Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije has ordered some building projects in the metropolis to be stopped because they pose danger to human life.
The Mayor gave the orders, when he led officials of the assembly to inspect development projects in Dzorwulu and Dansoman, both suburbs of Accra.
The order comes on the back of public outcry for the Mayor to be removed after a 6 storey collapsed at Nii Boye Town in Accra two weeks ago.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Public Relations Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Numo Blafo said the visit is a routine exercise by the Mayor to correct anomalies on building constructions in the metropolis.
“That is the routine we normally do; if we see a building that doesn’t have permit and poses danger to the public, they are asked to stop,’’ he said.
Some members of the public have called for the immediate dismissal of the AMA boss on the grounds that he had failed to manage Accra properly.
Their call was in relation to the collapse of an uncompleted six-storey building at Nii Boi Town on Thursday, March 13, where one person was killed and another was seriously injured.
