The deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Prince Anaglatey, confirmed the death to Citi News and added that the baby was currently receiving treatment for her burns.

“One child died, we were told it was a 6-year-old girl that died. The younger one, the [9-month-old baby], received some burns but she is also recouping. When I was at the hospital, they had treated her but she has to be sent to Korle Bu,” he said.

He said one of the survivors told the fire service that she had been informed about the fire by one of the children.

“She carried that one and she left, but the other one inside the hall, couldn’t come out because the door was locked,” Mr. Anaglatey narrated.

The cause of the fire, which reportedly started around 8 am is, as yet, unknown but Mr. Analglatey stated that they commenced their investigations into the incident.

“We have initiated our preliminary investigations as to what exactly occurred but it will be too difficult for us now to say exactly what happened. We are still here and we will ensure that the components that shows to be the potential [cause] of the fire will be examined critically,” he said.
