The police administration has said they cannot be blamed for corruption in the Police Service, accusing the society for corrupting its officers.
A survey released by the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) in November 2011 identified the Police Service as the most corrupt institution with a score of 4.6 out of 5.0.
A recent Afrobarometer report released in November 2014 also indicated that about 89% of Ghanaians rated the Police top in the corruption perception index, a claim the administration vehemently rejected.
[contextly_sidebar id=”wmq8bJAaJYt7M7FoDGe4Sf3xowlDTYhc”]Speaking at a press conference organised by the Accra Regional Police Command on Wednesday, the Odorkor District Police Commander Superintendent Abraham Acquaye explained that the police administration cannot be held accountable for various corrupt practices since it is a unit within a corrupt society.
He added that corruption in the service is a reflection of what buy celebrex goes on in society.
“We have different theories on corruption. We have the society-at-large theory on corruption which means that the society in totality is corrupt and therefore the police is a microcosm of a microcosm. Meaning that it is a micro society within the macro and therefore whatever we do is a reflection of what pertains in society”, he explained.
According to him, some police officers are sometimes intimidated by the statements of some persons to acquiesce to their demands or face threats from them.
“I believe that when it comes to the issue of corruption, in most cases the society is also to blame because they are worrying us in the discharge of our duties,” he concluded.
