The Ministry of Health has postponed the announcement of its findings and decision on the missing baby saga at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Tony Goodman said the inability of the Ministry to communicate its findings was due to the inability of the Nursing and Midwives Council to submit its report on time.
On Monday, the Minister of Health, Madam Sherry Ayittey said they would seek to bring closure to the mystery surrounding the missing babies on Friday.
This followed the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum given to the board, management and chief executive officer of KATH to account for five stillborns delivered on February 5, 2014.
The Ministry also gave the Ethics and Disciplinary committees of the Dental and Medical Council and the Nurses and Midwives Council 14 days to investigate the circumstances that led to the disappearance of the babies.
According to the statement, management of KATH and the Medical and Dental Council have responded to the Ministry’s directives, but the Nursing and Midwifery Council were yet to present their report and have informed the Ministry about the delay with a promise to do so not later than Monday March 24, 2014.
The Ministry therefore explained that its decision would be announced on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 3pm upon receipt of the council’s report.
