The President of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe is asking Ghanaian judges to seek further knowledge to enable them give better judgment.
He said the over a month detention of hiplife artiste, Kwaw Kese for smoking a substance suspected to be indian hemp was an “illiberal” decision on the part of the two judges who heard his bail application.
[contextly_sidebar id=”bd982I7GvWInRS6HCgdX0hTl24m7NWlo”]Mr. Cudjoe said: “Some of these judges need to know that we are living in modern times and I don’t know what they read but I think that they should be more adventurous in seeking further knowledge because in far seeing countries, these things don’t happen.”
His suggestion comes on the back of refusal of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit court and the Kumasi High court to grant Kwaw Kese bail after his arrest on November 22.
All four attempts by his lawyers to secure his release were denied.
Kwaw Kese, born Emmanuel Botchway was however released on Tuesday, December 30 and is scheduled to re-appear in court on January 5.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana programme which reviewed the major events which rocked Ghana in 2014, the IMANI boss maintained that there is a high probability that “some of these Judges are out of tune with the times.”
“It was just illiberal because the guy has not killed anybody so why will he not be given a bail?” he asked.
According to him, his defence for Kwaw Kese in no way condones his actions but his over a month detention was unnecessary.
Making reference to the Nayele cocaine saga, Mr. Cudjoe pointed out that the culprits were granted bail despite the severity of the crime they were alleged to have committed.
He therefore made a passionate appeal that “we need people to start looking into some of the decisions that are reached and do proper reviews” because according to him, “in countries like America, you see experts reviewing the decisions of the Supreme Court, reviewing legislations…”
