The Second Lady, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur has presented assorted items including fruits, drinks, biscuits, toys and writing materials to the Children’s Ward of the Koforidua Regional Hospital.
The presentation of the items during this yuletide was to bring smiles to the faces of children who are on admission at the place.
The Second Lady who had already made similar donations to the Children’s wards of Cape Coast and Effia Nkwanta Hospitals was accompanied by Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur and daughter Araba Amissah-Arthur.
Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur in making the presentation said the objective for the visit was to interact with the children, the nursing mothers, nurses and doctors working at the children’s ward and to wish the children speedy recovery.
She commended the nurses and doctors at the ward for their sacrifice and care for the patients on admission.
She said although the doctors and nurses could have been spending the yuletide with their families, they chose to come and take care of the children at the Children’s ward.
Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur earlier visited some ongoing projects at the hospital including the new CT scan centre, the diabetic centre, the new Ebola Isolation ward and the dental clinic.
He commended the nurses, doctors and the medical staff at the hospital for their dedication to duty and urged them to continue the good work.
He urged the nurses at the ward to organize regular public health education for the nursing mothers to enable them provide better diet for their children.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur also stated that it would be a big tragedy if the Ebola viral disease should befall the nation and as such reiterated the called on Ghanaians to minimize human to human contact since the disease can only be contracted through infected persons or animals.
He expressed the delight that the Koforidua Regional Hospital was preparing isolation ward for Ebola patients in case there was an outbreak of the viral disease in the country.
Dr Kwame Anim Boamah, the Medical Director of the Koforidua Regional Hospital, praised the Second Lady and the family for presenting the items to the ward, which he said would bring smiles to the children who were on admission at the place.
He stated that the hospital is the referral facility of the Ghana Health Service and committed to excellent clinical care with a vision to become a centre of excellence.
He appealed to the government to assist the hospital rehabilitate some of the internal roads as well as the wards in the hospital.
