The Ghana Police administration has instructed patrol teams across the country to clamp down on persons selling and using fire crackers during this festive season.
The sale and use of fire crackers has been banned by the government because of the threat they pose to citizens.
In recent times however, the ban has been blatantly flouted by the general public following the failure of the Police to enforce the ban.
[contextly_sidebar id=”0cIuOTVWr41o8tamsNHDIXUDECysNC3V”]The Director of Police Public Affairs, DSP Cephas Arthur told Citi News, the administration is very worried about the situation and has subsequently re-strategized to deal with the problem.
He indicated that Police personnel who have been deployed to perform the Christmas duties have been given firm instructions to look out for those who are flouting the ban, arrest and process them for court.
“People seem to be flouting the regulation because we hear noises of knock outs all over. Our personnel have been given firm instructions,” he said.
DSP Arthur pointed out that “it’s not easy to spot the people lighting fire crackers because some of them do it in the nook and crannies of their neighbourhoods but we have spoken to our men and they have re-strategized.”
The Police PRO explained that the ban was instituted following the irresponsible use of the firecrackers by some individuals which has resulted in the burning of vehicles, houses and sometimes causing serious injuries to people.
He was however confident that with the new strategy in place, “people will not be able to evade arrest if they are caught.”
He therefore reminded the public that ban on the use of fire crackers is still in force and must be obeyed.
