The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has admonished the Mahama-led government to spare Ghanaians the pain of the poor management of the economy in 2015.

[contextly_sidebar id=”RhNxw7HL0F4L54m4jmNrd1cRfBT1hZHs”]The party also wants government to bring progress and development to citizens because the country has seen little or no development under the six-year administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

A statement signed by the National Secretary of the PPP, Kofi Asamoah-Siaw said: “The PPP wishes to remind the NDC government that we need salvation from another year of economic hardship.”

2014 has been described my many as a difficult year for Ghana following the high rise in cases of corruption, intensified power crisis and depreciation of the cedi which is affecting businesses, huge public wage bill, among others.

Government is however in talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a three-year bailout programme and the President has promised that the socio-economic situation will improve in the coming years.

Nonetheless, the PPP has charged the current political leaders to use their expertise “to give back progress and development to the people and save us from the economic hardships experienced in 2014.”

He demanded the provision of education and job opportunities for the youth adding that, Ghanaians “need salvation in 2015 from cedi depreciation, corruption, incompetence and mismanagement.”

Asamoah-Siaw further demanded the effective implementation of the free and compulsory education programme to help citizens acquire the requisite skills and knowledge to help transform the economy.

“The President and the NDC government should spend proceeds from our oil deposits to fund this education policy as a means of an equitable distribution of our national resources,” he added.

According to the PPP, the fulfilment of these demands “should be the most significant gift that we can get from the numerous natural resources God has given to this country.”
