Tema Motorway accident: Two confirmed dead

Two people have been confirmed dead in the accident on the Tema Motorway on Christmas day.

The accident which, according to the police, occurred at around 8: 30 on Thursday morning claimed the lives of the two and left 13 others in critical condition.

Speaking to Citi News, the Commander of the Ashaiman Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police, DSP Kwame Afari, confirmed the deaths and spoke on the condition of the others.

According to DSP Afari, the victims were traveling in a Hyundai Grace bus from Tudu in Acccra to Aflao in the Volta Region.

The police suspect that, the driver after bursting his right tyre, “stepped on his brake and the vehicle veered of the road, somersaulted and fell into a ditch.”

The survivors are in “critical condition” and are currently being treated at the Tema General Hospital.

But due to the nature of the injures they sustained, some of them are expected to be transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching and the 37 Millitary Hospitals in Accra.
