Political Scientist, Dr. Amoako-Baah has said Alhaji Hudu Yahaya,  a former National Chairman aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), betrayed his constituents for unilaterally withdrawing from the race.

[contextly_sidebar id=”KB6kcAJUoCtDknpusHVZevdM6R4sCfLg”]According to Dr. Amoako Baah, Alhaji Yahaya should have consulted his constituents before taking such a decision.

Alhaji Hudu Yahaya withdrew from the race at the last minute to support the Chairman-elect, Kofi Portuphy.

Though he has explained that his decision to withdraw was to avoid what he calls ethnic politics the decision has sparked protest in his constituency with threats by some party members to burn down his house.

Dr. Amoako Baah however observed that  if Alhaji Hudu Yahaya had consulted his constituents, the reaction from the party members could have been averted.

He said the NDC members in his constituency “seemed to be very disappointed,” hence their action.

“I’m sure many of the delegates came down to vote for him and then to come to the venue and without any prior warning, they heard that their favorite candidate just dropped out and thrown his support behind Portuphy, that is what they are angry about,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Police say they are still stationed at the residence of Hudu Yahaya in order to prevent any violent action.

Speaking to Citi News, the Northern Regional Police, PRO, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said he and his men are still on the grounds ensuring security adding that “our men are still deployed at Alhaji Hudu Yahaya’s residence and it will continue because we have not taken a decision to withdraw them.”
