Two people have reportedly been seriously injured after a shooting incident on Friday December 19 at Alavanyo Kpeme in the Volta Region.
The shooting, believed to be in connection with the Alavanyo/Nkonya conflict, came days after Chiefs of both towns openly promised to ensure peace in their areas.
[contextly_sidebar id=”KiSp4zu0EQt4565z3opwK4FahZEWCjs9″]Speaking to Citi News, the District Police Commander Superintendent Godfred Tetteh Ajirackor confirmed the incident and added that the Police are confounded by the incident.
“We cannot vividly give account to what have actually happened now. The situation is putting us in a state of dilemma because soon after the agreement were made shooting started again,” he disclosed.
“They were even appealing to the government to relieve them from the curfew. I don’t know why they started shooting again,” he added.
Superintendent Ajirackor disclosed that no arrests had been made since the Friday incident.” We were not able to make any arrest because the gunmen were believed to have gone into the bush after the incident. But we are still investigating the matter,” he added.
This is not the first shooting incident in the area.
A number of violent clashes led to the imposition of curfew on residents by the government.
It is believed the troubles are linked to a protracted dispute over land between the peoples of Alavanyo and Nkonya.
