An Accra circuit court trying six suspects for aiding Ruby Appiah, alias Nayele Ametefe to transport cocaine into the UK has set Tuesday December 23 for the ruling on a bail application.
The court took the decision after the prosecution failed to show up during Monday’s sitting.
The accused persons, Alhaji Dawood, a businessman, Nana Akua Amponsah and Sadalia Sandra Nuhu and three other officials of the Kotoka International Airport, are facing prosecution charges in Ghana for the role they played in aiding Nayele Ametefe to transport 12kg cocaine into the UK.
[contextly_sidebar id=”N9TyOtk45rrkHgFmFUO7Vdp0ULQL1I0Q”]Lawyers for the suspects, in today’s hearing applied for the bail citing what they described as “lack of interest by the prosecution,” in the case.
They argued that their clients’ stay in the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) cells traversed their rights and prayed the court to grant them bail.
The last time they appeared in court, lawyers for the accused persons argued that the facts presented by the prosecution did not support the charges proffered against their clients.
However the presiding judge, Justice Francis Obiri dismissed the bail application.
Meanwhile, Nayele has pleaded guilty to charges proffered against her by a UK court.
She is expected to reappear before the court on January 5, 2015 in the United Kingdom.
