National Democratic Congress(NDC) has announced major changes to their party’s electoral processes.

This was announced at the party’s 8th National Delegates Congress currently underway in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

This will mean the establishment of an electoral directorate, the scrapping of the Propaganda Secretary position among others.

Speaking at the party’s congress, Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the NDC, Mr. Ken Dzirasah said the party’s electoral directorate will be established at various levels.

“In the past, we had an electoral directorate but it was not provided for in the constitution so now we have formerly provided for an election directorate in the constitution. We will have a directorate at the national level, we will have a directorate at the regional level, we will have a directorate at the constituency level and then we will have what we call an Elections’ Committee; the hree member Committee at the branch level,” he explained.

Some party members have raised concerns about the mundane electoral processes of the party.

A defeated youth aspirant of the party, Prince Kassim earlier stated that the electoral processes did not favour aspirants.

He said process gives aspirants little time to campaign.

Other changes the party effected are below

Propaganda Secretary now Communications Officer

Mr. Dzirasah said the party has resolved to refer to its Propaganda Secretary as Communications Officer.

Constituencies to use biometric systems for voting

He revealed that party members at the various constituencies are expected to use biometric system for voting.

“We have provided for the constituencies of the registration of party members under the biometric system. We will continue with that registration and the appropriate time, National Executive Committee(NEC) will decide what we will do.”

Enlargement of Electoral College

The party has enlarged its electoral college as a means of  deepening its democratic process.

“The enlargement of the electoral college is to address the challenges that this particular congress has faced particularly when it came to reaching out to delegates,” Mr. Dzirasah noted.
