The much anticipated eight National Delegates’  Congress of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is yet to kick start in Kumasi but nine persons have so far being arrested.

But the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Mohammed Yussif Tanko in a telephone interview told Citi News the suspects were arrested for attempting to erect unauthorized barriers around the Babayara Sports Stadium.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye is solidly on the ground with his men to maintain order before, during and after the congress.

He has served notice that no amount of persuasion or intimidation will coerce him to release any suspects arrested for various offences.

Security presence is tight within the enclave of the business capital city, Kumasi.

Entry to the stadium is strictly by accreditation and accredited people are scanned before entry.

Some NDC supporters within the periphery of the Babayara Stadium were spotted holding leather canes (Baranzim) for unknown reasons.
