The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will get to know today [Thursday], whether their much publicised National Delegates Congress will come on as scheduled.
A High Court will rule on a case filed by a disqualified National Organizer aspirant of the party, Emmanuel Aboagye Didiyie is seeking an interlocutory injunction on the congress .
The plaintiff is seeking to restrain the party from going ahead with its much anticipated congress on Saturday.
Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye who is also MP for Affram Plains North filed a law suit, after the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketsia announced a decision by the party’s Electoral Committee to drop him from the race.
[contextly_sidebar id=”38aygfLbcfZyuXQS6E4Zk8yicdJjuRil”]The Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, George Lawson has said Didieye was disqualified because he failed to meet the requirements of the party but the latter is insisting the party unjustifiably disqualified him.
Today’s ruling will determine the future of the congress which will see the election of new party officers.
Speaking to Citi News, one of the lawyers for the NDC, Victor Kojoga Adawudu said the party is confident of victory.
“We are always guided by the principles by which the court will have to act so looking at this, we will leave everything for the Court to take to determine what should happen,” Adawudu said.
“We can’t also just fold our arms and say that we will not put plans in place for this congress to go on. Looking at what has been filed before the court, the court will look at it and determine what should happen,” Adawudu added.
This is not the first time the party has been dragged to court by an aggrieved member.
A number of constituency elections had to either be called off or postponed after some aggrieved members in a number of regions including the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions dragged the party to court.
In September, a Human Rights Court placed an injunction on three constituencies in the Ashanti region just when the party was gearing up for its constituency elections.
