A syndicate at Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), a public transportation company, has been accused of stealing 12 buses belonging to the company.

According to the Finder newspaper, the syndicate towed the buses from various MMTL depots in the regions to unknown locations.

Employees of the company have been protesting the sudden disappearance of the buses since Monday.

They have given management and the board a one week ultimatum to produce the “stolen” buses or face their wrath.

The Chairman of the Senior Staff Union, and Joseph Ahenkora, Chairman of the Junior Staff Union of the company, have alleged that the syndicate, headed by some senior staff management members sprayed and converted the buses to private cars.

According to them, checks from various depots indicate that the buses were towed away.

This, they said, contradicts the company’s policy which states that all buses auctioned as scrap should be cut into pieces in the company’s premises before being transported.

They further revealed that two buses were found at different workshops in the Ashanti region after  union leaders asked employees to help locate the 12 buses towed away while three other buses had been converted to private cars.
