Perseus Mining Ghana Limited has sacked 48 workers of the company as part of measures to cut down on cost.

The company together with Goldfields Ghana Limited recently alerted the Ghana Mine Workers Union of their intentions to lay off some workers.

The dismissal comes a few days after AngloGold Ashanti laid off over 4,000 miners as part of cost-saving measures.

A number of mining companies following the slump in world price of gold and erratic power supply have embarked on retrenchment exercises to keep their operations profitable.

The National Chairman of the Ghana Mine workers Union Mensah Kwarko Gyakari who confirmed the news to Citi Business news said ‘as we speak 41 of our members are going.

Those who are not our members are also going.

He adds that ‘ We are yet to commence with Goldfields but we have finished with Perseus’.
