A High Court in Accra will on Tuesday hear a case challenging the eligibility of National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Organizer aspirant, Kofi Adams, in the upcoming congress on December 20.
A member of the NDC, Yaw Osei Gyamfi who filed the suit said Kofi Adams is a suspended member of the NDC and therefore, cannot run for any position in the party.
[contextly_sidebar id=”OWECeGPqpEwx1p80Owzv5NhhiZgMjG1f”]The NDC suspended Kofi Adams in 2012 after a voice suspected to be his, was heard on a leaked tape saying he will do everything possible to prevent the late President Mills from securing the mandate of Ghanaians for a second term.
Mr. Adams subsequently filed a suit in court challenging the decision to suspend him.
Though he was subsequently reinstated, Yaw Osei Gyamfi has insisted Kofi Adams is still not qualified to hold any position in the party.
Kofi Adams has however, in a media interview described the suit as as the “ joke of the century.”
In an earlier interview with Citi News, Mr. Adams claimed that most of the NDC bigwigs support his candidature.
He boasted that he received calls “from party founders, party executives saying that before your announcement we had been thinking about it that we are going to propose it for you to consider and push it down your throat.”
Meanwhile, Former President Jerry John Rawlings in a seperate interview with with Citi News also emphasized the need for Kofi Adams to be elected as the National Organizer to help the party regain its “lost integrity.”
Aside the law suit filed against Kofi Adams, an aggrieved NDC member Emmanuel Didiyie has also dragged the party to court over what he described as a calculated attempt to disqualify him from contesting as the National Organiser.
The party’s Deputy General Secretary, George Lawson has however clarified that Didiyie was disqualified because he failed to meet the requirements of the vetting committee.
The Court is expected to give its final ruling on the matter on Thursday.
