The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), headline sponsor of the senior national football team, is pleased to announce that the technical team of the Black Stars will embark on an observation tour of United Kingdom this weekend.

Through the support of GNPC’s business partners, Tullow Ghana Limited (TGL) and Standard Chartered Bank, the technical team will visit Liverpool Football Club (LFC) and League Managers Association (LMA) to share ideas.

Head Coach, James Kwasi Appiah, will be accompanied on the trip by his assistant, Maxwell Konadu, Goalkeepers’ Coach, Nassam Yakubu, Team Doctor Adam Baba, as well as Video Analyst, Michael Okyere.

The delegation will spend time with the LMA at St. George’s Park, the national training center for England, to share ideas with some of the leading coaches in England.

The Head Coach and Goalkeeper Trainer, will, additionally, spend time with Liverpool Football Club (LFC), to observe the team’s preparations for matches.

The team departs Accra on Friday 21st March and is expected to be back on 31st March 2014.

The programme with the LMA is made possible by Tullow Ghana Limited and that with LFC by Standard Chartered Bank.

Mr Alex Mould, Chief Executive of GNPC, who facilitated the programme, stated:

“GNPC is excited at the opportunity for our Black Stars’ technical team to shape up in the UK especially at this time that the English Premier League has become a thriller. We are hopeful that this tour will go a long way in helping Kwasi Appiah and his team in readiness for the World Cup.”

“We are grateful to our partners, for agreeing to support the Black Stars in this technical build-up,” Mr. Mould added.

“This is a great opportunity for our technical team to visit Liverpool, one of the best clubs in the world, to observe how they prepare their team towards matches,” Ghana Football Association (GFA), President Kwesi Nyantakyi said.

“We are grateful to GNPC and their partners for giving the technical team of the Black Stars the chance to observe some of the best methods of preparing for matches by the visit to LMA and LFC.

“This will positively impact on the Black Stars and will go a long way in helping the team bring glory to the country,” the GFA President added.

GNPC became Headline Sponsor of the Black Stars in January 2013, in a partnership that steered the team through qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The tour of the technical team is in fulfilment of an assurance given by the Headline Sponsor to the GFA management in November 2013, to help build the capacity of the team ahead of the World Cup.
