The incumbent National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Dr. Kwabena Adjei has mocked the moves being used by his opponents to unseat him at the party’s upcoming congress, describing them as “chicken strategies.”

About four stalwarts of the party, namely, Mr Kofi Porturphy; believed to be the main contender, Mr. Dan Abodakpi, a former minister of state and Alhaji Huudu Yahaya who is the incumbent Vice Chairperson of the party will be challenging Dr. Kwabena Adjei.

Over 300 delegates over the weekend openly declared their support for Mr. Porturphy and insisted he would steer the affairs of the party better than the incumbent.

But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Dr. Adjei said he is unperturbed by the massive endorsement for his opponent.

“This is a chicken strategy for me. If they want to get themselves deceived into getting people who have their heads on their necks and their body to do those things for them and they feel good about it and they feel it is a strategy then they can go ahead but I wont do anything about that.”

According to him strategies being employed by his opponents would not work.

“The Ghanaian has become so politically mature to the extent that these things don’t really hold much weight but if those are the things they will do to deceive Ghanaians and then come to power then God bless them. When they come to power, we will see what they can do. I am very confident that I will beat them,” he insisted.

The NDC’s much anticipated national delegates congress comes off in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, on December 20, 2014.

Asiedu Nketia’s endorsement

There were reports that the party’s General Secretary, Asideu Nketsia was present at Dr. Adjei campaign launch to throw his weight behind him.

Asked whether the former was supporting his candidature, Mr Adjei said “why shouldn’t he support me? He supports me and I support him. We worked together, right from the time we were in Parliament  and I have given him the chance to perform his duties as prescribed in our constitution.”

“In the past where the Chiarman had taken the General Secretary’s work, we have stopped… I support it. We trust each other…”
