The acting Rector of Koforidua Polytechnic, Godfred K. Abledu has accused the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) of sabotaging his regime due to his perceived affiliation to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The ECG last week disconnected power to the academic institute following an accumulated unpaid bill of about GHC 400, 000.
But the Rector is claiming that it is a calculated attempt by the ECG to destroy his image because he is perceived to be an NDC activist.
[contextly_sidebar id=”zXXjqiFfWiEFMLNGW8WPlCswOHKmKnBP”]Mr. Abledu made these allegations to Citi News in an interview during the 19th matriculation ceremony of the school in Koforidua.
According to him, before he took over as acting Rector a month ago, the school already owed the ECG and therefore questioned why power was disconnected to the school only during his tenure.
“I just took over about a month ago and the issue had been on the drawing board long ago but they had not disconnected the school and all of a sudden when I took over, they disconnected it. I smell a rat, I smell a rat,” he remarked.
Mr. Abledu observed that because he is a native of the Volta Region, he is perceived to be an NDC supporter; a perception he described as unfair.
He vehemently denied being an NDC supporter, adding that the ECG is using his supposed political affiliation to sabotage him.
The Koforidua Polytechnic Rector further explained that he has every cause to believe that the rumour about the possible sale of ECG by the government is a contributing factor.
“They consider me as NDC and NDC wants to sell ECG so they want to pin me down. I’m sure that might be a contributing factor. I just took over and all of a sudden, you want to sabotage me. They are using that clause to pin me down and make my regime very difficult,” he claimed.
He therefore appealed to all stakeholders to come to his aid because “the school belongs to the Eastern Region; it belongs to Ghana.”
Meanwhile, power has been restored to the school following the part payment of GHC 120, 000 made to the ECG.
The school however has only two weeks to settle the remaining bill or face another disconnection.
