The President of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has joined calls for the Ghana Entrepreneurial Employment Development Programme (GYEEDA) Bill, which is currently in Parliament to be rejected.
He remarked that it is unacceptable to giving legal backing to GYEEDA while the numerous corrupt acts which were uncovered in its operations were yet to been resolved.
Parliament is currently considering the GYEEDA Bill, which seeks to give legal backing to the operations of the programme.
[contextly_sidebar id=”KgNkA18mCaw896LJvMRQQLYjVeeVqieK”]The bill has however faced stiff opposition from the Minorty Members of Parlaiment who are of the view that the government is eager to ensure the hasty passage of the bill.
An anti-corruption crusader, Sydney Casley-Hayford had early on advised Parliament to throw out the bill.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, Papa Owusu Ankomah is also advocating for the bill to be rejected and returned to the committee level for further deliberations.
Speaking on Citi FM’s news analysis programme, The Big Issue, Mr Cudjoe said the rot which engulfed the programme should be corrected before the Bill is finally passed.
“…what they are trying to suggest is that while all these failings have occurred, they want to continue the process again,” he lamented
Mr Cudjoe inistsed that the GYEEDA bill is unnecessary, adding that “there can be nothing right about GYEEDA. Otherwise, why don’t you decentralize properly?”
