The government of Sierra Leone has banned all Christmas and the New Year events as the country struggles to contain the deadly Ebola disease.

The World Health Organization (WHO) in its recent statistics ranked Sierra Leone as the country with the highest number of Ebola cases.

The West African nation has so far recorded 8,000 cases and 1,900 deaths.

[contextly_sidebar id=”NVBYTtO2a4D5bzYxgoU86hl09zxS0PLB”]The outbreak of the disease in three West African countries, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since March 2014 has claimed about 6,580 lives.

The President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma is reported to have charged traditional leaders to put an end to all traditional practices to help stop the spread of the disease.

The new directive will be enforced by the deployment of soldiers to patrol the streets to ensure citizens remain indoors.

All public gatherings and activities have been curbed following the nature of transmission of the disease

Human beings get infected with the disease through direct contact with the bodily fluids of a person who has the virus or has died from it.
