The Volta Regional Minister, Helen Ntoso, has dismissed assertions that the Mahama-led government is taking the people of the region for granted.
According to her, the Volta Region which is considered the strong hold of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is receiving its “fair share” of developmental projects in areas such as roads, health, agriculture and education.
Madam Ntoso was responding to agitations in Ho from some youth groups about government’s seeming neglect of the region.
[contextly_sidebar id=”eFUdD0noTlbpWCQolH420EcY7ImDHN0c”]A group called concerned youth of Volta Region on Thursday presented a petition to the Volta Regional House of Chiefs on the deplorable state of infrastructure in the region.
Another group calling itself Concerned Residents of Ho earlier staged a protest against the “bad state of roads” in the regional capital and other parts of the region.
Addressing the fourth general meeting of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Madam Ntoso said though the region could not boast of being “self-sufficient,” government is gradually making strides to better the livelihoods of the people.
She outlined development projects and urged the youth to contact the Regional Co-ordinating Council when in doubt.
Madam Ntoso said protest marches do not solve problems and appealed to the chiefs to advise the youth to exercise restraint.
The President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV, expressed worry about the numerous uncompleted projects in the region and appealed to government to complete them.
Togbe Nakakpo Dugbaza VIII, Paramount Chief of Tefle, complained about shoddy works on the Ho-Adidome-Sogakope road and asked government to act immediately to rectify the problem.
