The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 general elections will give the NDC another opportunity to defeat the NPP.

“I think that it is good news to NDC because we know how to beat him and we will just continue to sharpen our tools and then give him a third time defeat,” he said.

Nana Akufo-Addo announced his decision to contest the NPP’s primaries to lead the party in the 2016 elections on Thursday.

Some have said it is possible for Nana Addo to win the 2016 elections because of the NDC’s current performance and the popularity gained from his two attempts at the presidency.

However, Mr Asiedu Nketia is confident that the NDC has a huge advantage over the NPP if Nana Addo is maintained as the presidential candidate.

“In terms of age and strength to prosecute an effective campaign, we have a huge advantage over him. Historically too, we have an advantage over him because there is no record of any presidential candidate who has suffered a defeat emerging and becoming stronger to defeat the opponent who first defeated him,” he added.

According to him, the NPP and Akufo-Addo will be better of getting a younger person to lead the party in 2016.
