A Former Deputy Energy Minister K.T Hammond has said he is excited by the rift between the Ghana Gas company (GNGC) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

According to him the feud exonerates his stance that it was illegal to set up the gas company in the first place, when the mandate fell under GNPC directly.

[contextly_sidebar id=”03H409oarjtQw4Sb8vYONdeMakhLj1gA”]“I’m happy because I’ve fought a one man battle to ensure that this insanity at Ghana Gas was sorted out. I have always held the view that there was no need for the creation of this Ghana Gas Company…”

“The creation itself was also an illegality. You get up one morning and you realise that people, like five people or so have been put together as directors and a limited liability company has been put in place and they are running this whole business for Ghana. This is such a strategic asset,” he stated.

Confusion has broken out between the management of Ghana Gas Company and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum over the latter’s claim that the GNPC had finally taken over Ghana Gas.

Whereas the Ministry in a press statement on Thursday announced a takeover of Ghana Gas by the GNPC, the Board Chairman of the company, Dr Kwesi Botchwey, issued a counter statement challenging GNPC’s take over claims.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, the Adansi Asokwa Member of Parliament(MP) said the takeover had been long overdue , adding that government’s decision is a step in the right direction.

“I hold the view that it is long over due and it is appropriate that government has now decided that Ghana Gas as a company should belong where it should. When you read the PNDC law 84, it makes it very clear. The Gas that we have is for the benefit of all us but it is vested in the President through GNPC so GNPC are the original owners…,”he stated.
