Three people have been arrested by the Upper West Regional Command for trading in expired pharmaceutical drugs.
According to the Upper West Regional Crime Officer, ASP Dan Qenchi, the move to apprehend fake pharmaceutical drugs peddlers in the region came about after numerous complaints were made by residents.
[contextly_sidebar id=”OOGqqI6U1yxjWHVifRddOyLNDxTzUEF7″]The three apprehended men currently in Police custody are Nui Sumaila 45, Abubakrr Iddrisu 38 and Awasu Aja 45.
They were arrested in a separate swoop by the Pharmaceutical Council and the Regional Police Command.
The aim of the exercise according to the Regional Police command is to flush out illegal drug sellers and get rid of unregistered drugs on the Ghanaian market.
The Upper West Regional Crime Officer, ASP Dan Qenchi disclosed to Citi News that the three arrested peddlers will be arraigned before court after full investigations but will remain in custody.
The West Regional Manager of the Pharmaceutical of Ghana during a press briefing indicated that the activities of the peddlers have posed serious health hazards in the region, adding that “we don’t know the sources of the medicines they sell, whether they are expired or fake because no body check on them”
He disclosed that the exercise will be continued till the region is cleared of illegal drug peddlers.
“The exercise is ongoing till we are satisfied that such people are out of the system, so every market day we will go the every market in the region.”
He therefore advised residents to obtain medicines from licensed drug stores instead of drug pedals.
