Time magazine’s 2014 ‘Person of the Year’ is Ebola healthcare workers in West Africa.
The runner-ups included Ferguson protesters, Russian President Vladimir Putin and founder of Alibaba, Jack Ma.
According to the BBC, the Editor of Time Magazine, Nancy Gibbs said: “The rest of the world can sleep at night because a group of men and women are willing to stand and fight.”
[contextly_sidebar id=”GxIrFm70VX2Z60WjSAo5cuzsoGelW4i6”]The recognition comes at a time when three West African nations; Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea are struggling to contain and stop the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.
Although three countries are battling with the disease, nations such as Italy and the United States of America (USA) have recorded a few cases.
The spread of the virus which began in March 2014 in Guinea has claimed over 6,000 including about 349 health workers according to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Time Magazines ‘Person of the Year’ is an annual issue of the magazine which features news makers of the year.
It features and profiles a person, group, idea or object that has done the most to influence the events of the year.
