Inflation hits 17 percent

Year on year inflation for the month of November increased to 17% from 16.9% recorded in October. This is the highest rate recorded since 2010.

The monthly inflation rate however declined from 2.7% to 0.9%.

The non-food group recorded a marginal increase in inflation rate from 24% to 24.1% in November.

This was mainly driven by housing, water and electricity which recorded an inflation rate of 36.2%. Education recorded the lowest inflation rate of 9%.

Food inflation inched up marginally from 6.5% to 6.6% which was driven by coffee, tea and cocoa which recorded an inflation rate of 20.5%.

According to the Ghana Statistical Service, the prices of vegetables averagely have fallen by 5.5% compared to same period last year.

Deputy Government Statistician, Dr Baah Wadeah tells Citi Business News this is because there are more vegetables on the market now.

The central region recorded the highest regional inflation rate of 19.5% while the Upper-West region recorded the lowest rate of 13.1%.

The Greater Accra region recorded an inflation rate of 16.3%.
