Three men have been arrested by the Dansoman police in Accra for their alleged involvement in an attempted car snatching and sale, during which the driver was nearly strangled.
Two of them: Samuel Teye, 26, a driver, and Yaw Agyemang, 36, a mechanic, planned to steal the vehicle, a Kia Pride with registration number GR 2760-10 and sell it to the third suspect, Naziru Yakubu, 25, a scrap dealer at Agbogloshie.
Yakubu later met the two other men at Weija to collect the vehicle and dismantle it as planned.
Encounter
Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Dansoman Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Mr Antwi Tabi, said Teye and Agyemang hired the taxi from Dansoman to be driven to Sakaman at about 2:45 a.m, on December 1, 2014.
On reaching the Dansoman waterworks area, he said, the suspects asked the driver to stop the car and when he did, Teye, who was sitting right behind the driver, held his neck and started twisting it with the intention to strangle him.

During the struggle, Mr Tabi said Teye continuously hit the taxi driver with a metal piece he was holding.
Meanwhile, Agyemang, who thought his accomplice had finished off the driver, took charge of the car and thinking that Teye had hopped on board, sped off.
Mr Tabi said the taxi driver raised an alarm for help and was assisted by some residents in the area to arrest Teye.
Agyemang’s arrest
Teye was later handed over to the Dansoman police patrol team and through investigations, Mr Tabi said Teye admitted to the offence and led the police to arrest Agyemang at a hideout at Agbobgloshie.
Mr Tabi said Yakubu was arrested after he was lured to meet Teye and Agyemang, at Weija.
