MaidennThe Black Maidens booked their place in the last 16 of the Women’s Under 17 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Germany.

A 43rd minute header from Gladys Amfobea was the difference between the two sides in a game that was played at a high pace in Liberia.

The victory gave the Black Maidens their second victory of the tournament and the tag of being the first team in the tournament to land a quarter final place.

On a statistical level,  Ghana’s win was their second over the Germans in three encounters at this level of women’s football.

The other match in the group between Canada and Korea DPR ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Asians took the lead in the 54th minute with a goal from Player of the Match, Sung Hyang Sim, and they looked set to get a win to reward their enterprise, but a sliced clearance from defender Kim Jong Sim allowed the Canadians to get an equaliser in the 86th minute.

The result gives Canada two points from two games while Korea DPR have one point while Ghana tops the group with 6 points. Germany are at the bottom of the group.
