Businesses and individuals may see some improvement in power supply in the coming days.

This follows moves by the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) to produce the full complement of gas required at the Aboadze thermal plant to generate some 550megawatts of electricity by the close of December,2014.

According to a statement from GNGC ” Ghana gas intends to ramp up gas production from 60 MMSCFD to the target flow of 120 MMSCFD by end of December 2015″.

Close to 140 megawatts of electricity is currently being produced from the Aboadze complex due to the 35 million standard cubic feet of gas supply to the Volta River Authority by GNGC.

The statement signed by the board chairman of GNGC, Dr.Kwesi Botchwey , said, the progress of the project will be subject to the issuance of the requisite permits from the Energy and Petroleum Commissions to allow the company to process and transport gas above 60 million standard cubic feet per day.

It stated that commissioning activities of the gas infrastructure project have been progressing steadily.

It adds that the VRA will also need to confirm its readiness to take the higher flows as and when it is available.

Meanwhile Citi Business News has learnt the Ghana National Gas Company is yet to formally request for a permit to ramp gas production from 60 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to the target flow of 120 million standard cubic feet per day.
