The Western Region has  received eight new fire tenders to facilitate the fight against fire in the region.

The tenders were procured with financial assistance from the Indian Exim Bank.

They include eight new tenders and one motor cycle bringing the total number of fire tenders in the region to 28.

One of the tenders have already been sent to serve the gas facility at Atuabo while five of the remaining seven are to be given to the Ahanta West, Shama, Wassa East, Aowin and the Juabeso Districts.

The remaining two are on standby pending the completion of fire stations in the Bia West and Mpohor districts.

Commissioning the tenders at the Regional Coordinating Council in Sekondi on Monday, the Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo said the move forms part of efforts to equip the fire service with the needed equipment to work effectively.

He added that “Western Region since the discovery of crude oil in commercial quantities has become an important destination for global investors in the oil and gas industry. In addition many of the nation’s resources are found in this region. It is therefore necessary that these resources are protected by adequately equipping the Ghana National Fire Service to carry out its mandate.”

“This will go a long way to boost investor confidence in Ghana as a whole and the Western Region in particular knowing that the safety of their investment is guaranteed,” Paul Evans Aidoo added.
