The Northern premier rural bank called Bonzali Rural Bank was adjudged the best out of the 16 rural and community banks located in the three regions of the north.

The Bonzali Rural Bank received two awards for the best northern rural bank and third national best for deposit mobilization.

For the best regional rural bank of the Northern Region award-2013, the citation read, “You have filled the vacuum created by the traditional banks in your catchment area by mobilizing all available funds and extending credit facilities to rural folks. You have indeed contributed to the financial inclusion agenda in deepening financial intermediation in your operational jurisdiction. The name Bonzali Rural Bank has become a household name in your catchment area and in the Northern Region as a whole. For these achievements the Association of Rural Banks Ghana confers on Bonzali Rural Bank Limited best regional rural bank of the Northern Region-2013.”

The General Manager of Bonzali Rural Bank, Paul Atsu Fiawoo shared his delight with Citi Business News saying, “Winning an award is first of all a very good recognition and it is good to keep us on our toes because it is not only winning, once you have won you have to work harder to go beyond what you have won.”

He dedicated the awards to the hard working staff, governing board and customers of the bank.

As the premier northern rural bank, the Bonzali Rural was established on April 4, 1990, headquartered in Kumbungu.

The Builsa Community Bank in Sandema won the Upper East Best Regional ward.

Managing Director of Builsa Community Bank who doubles as Chairman of the Upper East Regional Chapter of the Association of Rural Banks, Alhaji Adams Sherrif commended the staff, management and governing board for their meritorious services.

He said, “When you are doing something and behind it people recognize your hard work and award you or give you an honor you can imagine the feeling is like giving birth to your first born.”

“I am so excited and even being the Chairman of the association of rural banks in the Upper East Region and my bank incidentally winning the award I am so excited and I am sure our shareholders will be delighted to hear this.”

Nandom Rural Bank won the best Upper West Regional Rural bank award.
