The Electricity Company of Ghana has reduced the amount of power supplied to mining industries in the country by 25 percent.

They believe the new initiative will enable them restrategize for the upcoming load shedding exercise which will be announced soon.

Speaking to Citi News, the director of operations for the ECG Tetteh Okyne said this will ensure that they have enough power to supply to all areas.

He said “With the residential areas we are still continuing with the old programme which we have –  that is 12 hours of outage and then 24 hours of supply.”

Mr Okyne explained that “if you go off in the morning the first day and you come back in the evening, until the next day evening you will go off and then come back the following day in the morning. The mines and steal industries have agreed to reduce their load by 25 percent so they are all going down by 25 percent of the load so that we have the room to supply other areas.”

ECG has resorted to the load shedding exercise following various failed attempts to solve the power crisis in the country.
