Over hundred teachers in the Upper West Akim District in the Eastern Region have decided to boycott teaching in the district to demand the payment of their three months unpaid salaries.

The Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) in October called on all those on the government payroll system without bank account numbers to furnish the department with such details or their salaries will be forfeited.

The teachers say the delay was attributed to some errors in their account numbers which were later resolved but their monies have still not been paid.

Speaking to Citi News one of the aggrieved teachers said they  “the Director assured us that by all means our salaries will be paid at the end of November but today is first December we went to the bank but there was nothing.”

He explained that they cannot resume teaching because besides their salaries, they do not have teaching and learning materials adding that “you are asking teachers to be in the classrooms without register, notebooks or pay why should we go?”

He threatened that the teachers will not resume work until their demands are met.
