Zenith Bank has been adjudged the “Bank of the Year, Ghana” at the 2014 Banker Awards held in London.

The award comes only nine years after the bank commenced operations in Ghana.

Zenith Bank is listed in Nigeria and the UK with subsidiaries in Ghana, The Gambia and Sierra Leone as well as representative offices in China and South Africa.

Mr Daniel Asiedu told Citi Business News after the event that award poses a new challenge on the bank to perform better.

“This award clearly tells us we are doing the right thing, it tells us we are on the right path and for me it adds a lot of credence to what we are doing in Ghana,” Mr. Asiedu said.

“In nine years  we have won so many awards including , the Bank of the Year organised by Corporate initiative Ghana…We dedicate this award to our cherished customers and it would encourage us to come out with more innovative products for our clients”, he added.

Daniel Asiedu has challenged his compatriots in the banking sector to commit to innovative banking practices in their delivery of services to Ghanaians.

According to him, the principle lies at the heart of a winning formula in the banking sector.

He further stressed the need for the highest standards of customer service to be maintained.

Zenith Banks was adjudged the Best Bank in Ghana at the 15th edition of The Banker Awards held at the Intercontinental Hotel in London on Thursday.

Editor of The Banker Magazine, Brian Caplen in an exclusive interview with Citi Business News said the global financial market is excited by the prospects of investing more in Ghana.

According to him, there is an opportunity for the continent to transform the international banking sector.

“The emerging markets in Africa are the ones with the biggest potential on the banking front because you’ve got such big populations that don’t have access to financial services so there is a great scope to grow those things.”

Mr. Caplen added that “the interesting thing about Africa is that, instead of going for the branch banking, what is going to happen is that you’re going to get the latest technology; internet and mobile banking. This will be the first technology of choice in Africa so there will countries that have more people banking by internet mobile phone instead of branch and Africa will be ahead of the world I think.”
