A former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Betty Mould Iddrisu has revealed that one of the biggest regrets of her political life was when she accepted to work in that position.
According to her, though she has worked with the Ministry of Justice in different capacities over the years, her nomination as the state’s attorney was one that she least expected.
Betty Mould Iddrisu later resigned as the Minister of Education following pressure from critics for the role she played in the payment of Ghc51 million as judgment debt to businessman Alfred Woyome.
[contextly_sidebar id=”A5REPCXjJXJGVeTEjVSjxLF0Ocnjzjt7″]Speaking on an Accra based Radio Gold on Friday, Betty Mould responded in the affirmative when asked whether she regretted being the Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
She said: “I regretted it instantly… It was not the position that I imagined for myself. Anyway, I was part of a team so if the team thought that this is where I could manage representing best then I had very little to do. Governance is about teamwork.”
“Luckily, I had worked under the Ministry of Justice…I knew the problems and I knew the issues… [But] to meet the challenges and the expectations of the NDC was a huge challenge at that time…that is what I can say without breaking any oaths of secrecy, it was a very difficult time in 2009 and 2010,” she added.
She explained that though she doesn’t like talking about judgement debt, “judgement debt for heavens sake didn’t start with the NDC. People say that most were paid under my time, they might be right” arguing that she was only discharging her duties professionally as expected of her.
She further suggested that the Ministry of Justice should be detached from the Attorney Generals Department.
Betty Mould is currently contesting the Vice Chairmanship position in the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She was confident of winning the position.
The former AG may face stiff opposition from Danny Annan, former CEO of Accra Hearts of Oak, Harry Zakour, Alhaji Sinare and the former Minister of Education, Lee Ocran who are all contesting for the Vice Chairmanship position in the NDC.
Meanwhile, the NDC will host its National Delegates Congress in Kumasi on December 20, 2014.
