The Unionized Staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana are asking the President to explain why their former boss, William Hutton Mensah was relieved of his position.

They made this demand at a press conference held on Tuesday.

The Senior staff expressed worry over the development saying its shows victimization.

According to the union, if the removal had anything to do with the pronounced unreliability of power then other heads within the power sector should also be fired.

[contextly_sidebar id=”3CQeG9Qg90Rpvzt3AqXlwl2I3pck89cf”]The Tema Regional office of the (ECG) had earlier threatened to cause mayhem if their boss was not reinstated.

About 400 workers of ECG’s office in Accra also demonstrated over the same issue.

General Secretary of the Senior Staff Association of the ECG, Ato Bondzi – Quaye who addressed the press conference expressed worry over the issue stating that “all of you are aware that the third statement announcing the removal of the managing director did not assign any reasons and even after five days no reason was given by government for the unfortunate termination of the appointment of our former chief executive.”

The General Secretary described the termination as “unjust.”

He further added that  that for the last three years under the stewardship of Mr Mensah the ECG has witness an enormous and verifiable achievements in the company’s history stating that “distribution losses had been reduced to 22.8 percent from 27 percent.”

He added that this was the reason the unionize members have called on government to unconditionally reinstate Mr Mensah to reposition the company.

Meanwhile, a labour Analyst, Austin Gamey has described as unnecessary the demands being made by the ECG workers.
