Kwame Awuah Darko – MD BOST

Unionized staff of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), has commended President John Dramani Mahama, for heeding to its plea to remove the Board of Directors (BoD) of the Company and for appointing a substantive Managing Director (MD) for the company.

Below is the full statement from the union.

We the unionized staff  of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), wishes to  commend the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, for heeding to our plea to remove the Board of Directors (BoD) of the Company, as well as appointing a substantive Managing Director (MD) for the smooth running of BOST.

It would be recalled that unionized members of BOST demonstrated against management for mismanagement and the BoD, on the 1st October, 2013, for interfering in the day to day activities of the Company and failed to put prudent measures in place to revive the dwindling fortunes of the only largest Bulk Storage for the country, which has a capacity of 420millilion litres.

Some of the issues we raised during the demonstration included but are not limited to: interference of the board in the day to day administration of the company, under-utilization of depots, mismanagement, handing over river barges to the Volta Lake transport company (VLTC) and pool staff welfare.

With respect to the above mentioned issues we raised we the unionized staff made the following plea.

That His Excellency the president should dissolve the board of Director of Bost immediately to rescue Bost from collapsing.

That the report from the committee which was set up by the minister of Energy on the case of impropriety at Bost should be made public.

That the Management of Bost should be restructured.

Recapitalization of Bost and re-stocking of bost with adequate fuel for strategic purpose.

Following these demands the president on the 21st October, 2013, the President appointed Mr. Kwame Awuah Darko as the new MD for BOST.

We take this opportunity to once again welcome our new MD, and wish him well.

However, we wish to put on record that the company is experiencing some level of improvement since Mr. Kwame Awuah Darko assumed office.

Transparency, all inclusiveness, and show of professionalism have been his hallmark. He has re negotiated part of our new proposed conditions of service with both the junior and senior staff, which is expected to be rolled out next month

Within few months in office, Mr. Darko has embarked on major restructuring of Bost operations and structure and we wish to thank the president once again for his support.

We take this opportunity to welcome the newly BoD of BOST, Which was inaugurated on the 14th February, 2014, and hope that the board will support the MD to address other issues that necessitated the demonstration from the unionized staff members that give birth to the current BoD

We also wish that the BoD WILL NOT MEDDLE in the day to day activities of the company as was done by the some erstwhile BoD members but rather provide a good strategic policy direction to restore Bost to its former glory.

We are much aware that some charlatans and saboteurs within the Company are attempting to undermine the Good effort of Mr. Darko, as they did to past MDs.

We want to send a strong signal to those charlatans to desist from their evil ways or risk being exposed.

We want to assure them that this time they will fail, instead of Bost failing.

This time the ranks of both the senior staff association and the Local union are closed and would not allow any evil minded persons to infiltrate to achieve their parochial interest.

We also thank all BOST workers and ask for God blessing for all  who supported the leadership during the demonstration.
