The Coalition of unpaid Nurses will on Tuesday demonstrate in Kumasi over their unpaid salaries.
According to the group, they have not received their salaries for close to 24 months.
The nurses who number over 1,000 say the situation has brought untold hardship on them.
[contextly_sidebar id=”N2IOXC3ngwwNFzueAj1YZ8rZBoqYljCt”]The National Coordinator for the group, Jefferson Asare-Danquah told Citi News, all efforts made to get the government to pay their outstanding salaries have yeilded no results, hence, their decision to hit the streets.
He indicated that all is set for today’s demonstration saying, “our demonstration is coming on live and we will set off from the Cultural Center in Kumasi” through some principal streets of the Ashanti Regional capital.
“All we are saying is we need our money,” he said, adding that if their salaries are paid after their demonstration, all other scheduled demonstrations across the 10 regions of Ghana will be called off.
“If government gives us our money after this demonstration, we will stop the other regional demonstrations. But if we do not hear any favourable answers from government, we will continue on December 3 in the Volta Region,” Asare-Danquah warned.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has told Citi News, it is ready to grant full security to the demonstrators.
The Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Tanko explained his outfit has put in place all the necessary security measures to ensure the safety of the demonstrators and other residents in the city.
“We are there to provide security to ensure that the demonstrators abide by all the regulations. We will protect them from others who may not like what they are doing,” he said.
According to him, the Police, together with the leadership of the group agreed on certain dos and don’ts for the street protest to ensure that “nobody will go beyond the boundaries that have been set.”
