An industrial and labour court in Accra presided over by Justice Saeed Kweku Gyan has set December 16 to rule on an application filed by government against the agitated twelve labour unions.
Government among other things is praying the court to rule on the rightful trustee responsible for managing the tier two pension contributions of public sector workers.
Government is also requesting the court to award costs against the unions for its losses during the period they went on strike.

They are also challenging the Ministry of Finance’s decision to use Pension Alliance Trust as sole trustees of the second tier pension schemes for all employees on government payroll.
The unions also filed a counter suit after several deliberations to have the matter resolved amicably failed to produce the needed results.
The unions demonstrated in Accra and Kumasi against government on Thursday over the matter.
This was after attempts to solve the impasse with the unions hit a deadlock.
The Coordinator of the unions Abu Kuntilo said the demonstration was part of their strategy to get their concerns addressed.
“Since 2010, we have been engaged in dialogue with government about the implementation of our second tier pension schemes which we have duly registered and licensed by the National regulatory authority. The second reason is for us to use this opportunity to re-echo the awareness creation to our rank and file which we represent for them to be abreast with what is happening between us and the government.”
But government has said the demonstration won’t change anything.
