The Industrial and Labour Court presided over by Justice Saeed Kweku Gyan will on Monday hear a case government brought against the twelve agitating labour unions.
Government sued the labour unions, praying the court to among others,rule on the rightful trustee responsible for managing the tier two pension’s funds of public workers.
[contextly_sidebar id=”OrXECXKh3tpTYGvq87ff4lADB92nX1p0″]The case was adjourned last week to give the plaintiff more time to study an affidavit filed by the unions.
Government is also asking the court to award damages against the unions to compensate government for its losses during the period the unions were on strike.
Speaking to Citi News,the Deputy Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine said the case was adjourned because the unions delayed in presenting the affidavit.
“…The judge took the view that the case could not come on because of late service of the affidavit so basically we are being given time to respond to whatever has been deposed in that affidavit …”he said.
The angry unions embarked on a demonstration on Thursday in Accra and Kumasi to show their displeasure in government’s handling of their pension matters.
But defiant government called the bluff of the unions and said the demonstration will not change anything.
They had earlier declared an indefinite strike but a court forced them to return to work after government secured an ex parte motion to compel them.
