Ghana fansMembers of the various supporter groups who had hopes of government funding to enable them make the trip to Brazil for the World Cup will have to pay their way to the tournament.

Supporter groups have been funded by government to the last two World Cups but it seems their run is at an end after the comments of the Sports Minister,Elvis Afriyie Ankrah on Accra based Power Fm.

“The government will not be funding supporters to this World Cup. We will help them if they can raise corporate sponsorship but we will not be paying.”

The minister also revealed that per the new budget approved by the cabinet, the Black Stars will be paid the same bonuses as the last World Cup.

“Based on our discussion the government insist that we should maintain our bonuses and for the record, the 2010 figure was $75,000 and so we should maintain the 2010 figure because we are all going through challenges.”

“Winning bonuses will also be maintained.”
