The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Seth Tekper, has said that the government of Ghana is constructing additional 23 new Senior High Schools (SHS) under the Secondary Education Improvement Project.

He made this statement when presenting the 2015 Budget and Economic Statement before Ghana’s parliament.

[contextly_sidebar id=”kmjt3zZH7FJ4QnBadO0n5y8UdIgfoKFr”]According to the minister, the construction of the additional 23 buildings meant for senior high school education is part of government’s agenda to provide quality education for secondary school students.

Speaking before members of parliament on Wednesday – November 19, 2014 – the minister said that the 2015 budget has made provision for the construction of the additional 23 school buildings.

“Under the World Bank supported Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP), an additional 23 new Senior High Schools are being constructed. This means therefore that so far funding has been secured for 123 out of the promised 200 Senior High Schools,” the minister stated.

According to Mr Terkper, “President Mahama’s agenda for quality, accessible, equitable, and affordable education remains on course,” that explains why the construction of the additional twenty-three school buildings has been captured in the budget.

Delivering his statement, he pointed out that the president remains confident of meeting his target by 2016 in line with prudent fiscal policy that all major capital projects must be fully funded before they are started.
