The Accra Police hospital has called on persons who had deposited bodies at the hospital’s mortuary to claim them ahead of a scheduled decongestion exercise.

According to the hospital, about 120 unknown bodies would be given mass burial if they are not claimed within eight days.

[contextly_sidebar id=”phL7us4eWvgNi0PusD72XVkpZDFZSCVo”]According to the Public Relations Officer Juliana Obeng, in an interview with Citi News, this is because there is an over ceded number of bodies in the unknown department, which has resulted to the morgue fridge to be over working.

“The number of bodies in the morgue is more than the fridge can take,” she said.

She added that the exercise will involve the city authorities, as they are expected to provide the land, man power and the resources to do the exercise.

“We are now waiting for the city authority to tell us if the land we are supposed to use for the mass burial exercise is ready; so once they tell us it is ready we will go on with the exercise,” she added.

The 37 Military Hospital undertook a similar exercise in April 2014 after management of the hospital could not trace the family members of about 261 bodies. The bodies comprised 254 children and 27 adults.
